The Spanish lyric coloratura soprano Mireia Castells began her music career as a violinist. She has completed her studies at the Municipal Conservatory of Music of Barcelona in violin (at Erika Gallovà) and solo singing (at M. Àngels Sarroca and Salvador Parrón).
Following several years of singing at the Youth Choire Palau de la Música of Barcelona, including concert tours through Europe, she has since continued her training in regular master classes at renown artists, including, the tenor Jaume Aragall and the sopranos Carmen Bustamante and Fiorenza Cedolins. Driven by her love to the Vienna Opera, she moved to Vienna in 2015, where she refined her vocal technique with the soprano Regina Renzowa and the tenor Bojidar Nikolov.
Her first performance was in the role of Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro (W.A. Mozart) at the Opera Studio in Barcelona in 2013/14. In 2015/16 she gave her impressive debut as Adele in the operetta Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), directed by Robert Simma and Elena Gertcheva (as musical director). In the 2016/2017 season, Mireia convinced in her role as Königin der Nacht in the opera Die Zauberflöte (W.A.Mozart), which was performed under the same direction in Vienna and several other Austrian locations. This season (2018/19), the soprano tours Germany and Austria as Königin der Nacht in a new production of Die Zauberflöte. Further plans include her role debut as Musetta in the opera La Bohème (G.Puccini) in Palau de la Música Catalana of Barcelona.
She has interpreted the following additional roles: Zerlina (Don Giovanni, W.A Mozart), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail, W.A. Mozart), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Offenbach) and Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera, Verdi). She embraces a comprehensive repertoire of oratorios which include: The Matthäus-Passion (J.S. Bach), the Johannes-Passion (J.S. Bach), The Messiah (G.F. Händel), Mass in C-minor (W.A.Mozart), The Creation (J. Haydn) and Requiem (G. Fauré).
Mireia Castells was a finalist at several international singing competitions – including the XVII Youth Singing Competition Arjau of 2012 in Barcelona and the XXIV Josep Mirabent i Magrans Competition of 2018 in Barcelona.
Mireia is particularly gifted in identifying herself with her roles and in interpreting them powerfully and yet empathetically. She has captivated her audience with her pleasantly bright and touching voice at various opera and song concerts throughout Spain and Austria. Her concert repertoire encompasses amongst others, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Haydn, Debussy, Granados, Toldrà, Fauré, Orff, Vivaldi, Händel, Bach, Mozart, Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, Gounod, Offenbach and Verdi.
